West Nile Virus Found Again in Coachella Valley
Two more cases of West Nile Virus have been discovered in the Coachella Valley area, it was announced Friday.

On Thursday, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced the virus has returned.

The IDPH reported two birds tested positive for West Nile virus in Illinois during their first round of bird testing. The birds were a sparrow found in Lanark, Carroll County, on May 8 and a cowbird found in Belleville, St. Clair County, on May 10.

The St. Clair County Health Department said today a bird tested positive for the West Nile Virus.

The department said they will begin testing for the virus in pools of mosquitoes when overnight temperatures are above 60 degrees. Inspectors will continue testing birds to watch the spread of disease. The department said the appearance of birds that test positive for West Nile Virus is not unexpected at this time of year.

South Georgia health officials say the West Nile season is starting early in the Peach State.

Officials say Georgia has already seen a human case of the virus about two months earlier than the usual late summer debut. The case was in Clayton County. The virus is spread by a bite from an infected mosquito, but officials say there are ways to avoid contracting the virus.
